Sólstöður

The musicians create an amazing aura and unique sound panoramas that will be deeply remembered. If you are looking for a subtle emotionality in jazz, but also a pleasant emotional confusion, then you should reach for the album "Sólstöður".

Sólstöður is an exceptional band that presents a captivating genre known as chamber jazz. Their music gracefully combines elements of intimate and romantic jazz with subtle influences from neoclassical music. The result is an atmospheric and sophisticated sound that exudes a sense of nobility. The heart of Sólstöður's compositions lies in the slowly drawn melodic lines, which are imbued with an aura of sensitivity and intimacy.

In December 2020, they released their debut album, aptly titled "Sólstöður," which perfectly captures the essence of their artistry. The album draws inspiration from the midnight sun, reflecting the band's name, which translates to "Solstice" in English.

The band's members, hailing from different countries, serendipitously crossed paths at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam during their studies. Pianist Stefan Bos from Holland, double bass player Pierre Balda from Switzerland, and guitarist Mikael Máni Ásmundsson embarked on a musical journey together in 2015. Throughout the years, they have shared their extraordinary music in their respective homelands of Iceland, Switzerland, and Holland and their exceptional talent was recognized when they received a nomination for Best Jazz Compositions Of The Year at the prestigious Icelandic Music Awards.
